A Thanksgiving at Home

For the first time in many years we spent Thanksgiving at home. As the kids get older and have lives of their own, it gets harder to get everyone together at the same time. Zoe had to work Thanksgiving day for a few hours which meant they couldn't be at my parents house so for that reason (and a few others) we stayed home to celebrate. Our friends, the Wakefield's didn't have plans for the day either so we invited them to eat with us as well. It turned out to be a really fun afternoon/evening but it still wasn't like being at my mom and dad's.

Our menu was this:

Turkey- Tony did a dry brine
Ham- a very small one and we found this recipe for the glaze; the kids loved it!
Corn
Sweet Potato Casserole- this could easily be dessert! It was SOOO good! Recipe here.
Corn Bread Stuffing- Not sure if this is exactly the recipe, but if it isn't exact, its close.
Dinner Rolls

Double Layer Pumpkin Pie- this recipe
Cinnamon Nut Swirl Apple Pie a Pillsbury recipe. We didn't add the pecans because Landon has an allergy, but everyone said it was really good.

Lisa and Jeff brought an appetizer- spinach dip, a side dish- green beans and a dessert-cookie bars.
Zoe was upset that we didn't make mashed potatoes, but I thought it was enough to have the sweet potatoes! Oh well. Can't win them all I suppose.

Kids Table!

I wish this photo had turned out better! We let Evie get away with stuff we'd never let the big kids do!

At first Evie wouldn't have anything to do with Landon but eventually he won her over.

After we'd all eaten we decided to play Hoopla. While the adults played that, the kids happily sat on the couch playing Super Smash Bros.

It was close to 7:30 before everyone headed out. We had a lot of fun just hanging out, eating and playing games. Good times with great friends and our wonderful family is what we're thankful for this year.
