Ugly Sweater/Silly Sock/Pj Day

Today is the last day of school for the kids before they begin winter break. Neither of the younger kids are having a traditional holiday party but their classes are celebrating in other ways. Second graders were to wear "silly socks" and bring a book to share with their classmates (It's also ugly sweater day for the school.) while the kindergarten classes are having Polar Express Day and will have hot cocoa and in their pajamas while watching the movie. I got the memo about the ugly sweater thing pretty late and after a stressful run to Target in which I turned up empty handed, I decided to just make a sweater Harper already owns, ugly.

After dropping Landon off at work last night I ran to Michael's and grabbed a few things I thought would uglify a sweater. Stickers, a gift wrap bow, and some pom poms. While the kids and I watched Elf (my FAVORITE Christmas movie) I sewed on the gift bow and pom poms and stuck foam stickers on the front.

After I'd put the bow and pom poms on I showed Harper my progress and he said "Mom, that is adorable, not ugly! You are so used to making things cute you don't even know how to make things ugly!" I'm not sure if that was a compliment or not. He went on to add that if I really wanted to make it ugly I should throw red paint on it...and then I understood his line of thinking! But, I wasn't in for ruining a perfectly good sweater for the sake of one day, so I put the stickers on and called it done. It won't win any contests but I should be able to remove all of it and have him wear it again, I think.

He was a bit grumpy before school this morning which is why no smile on this little elf, but would you just look at him! He's the cutest little thing! Those socks! That sweater! Cute and ugly all at once.

And, like I mentioned before, Dakota got to wear pj's to school, which is just the most fun thing ever when you're five. When I went in Michael's yesterday to get the supplies for Harper's sweater I came across a cute little headband that she could wear as well; she LOVED it!

I'm hoping they are having a really fun day at school today and that this will be a great kick off to our ten day long winter break. Lord knows I could use some easy/fun days...
