Dakota's Recital Day

So, while Harper and Tony were at a birthday party, Dakota and I were at home getting her all gussied up for her recital. She was THRILLED that she got to wear lipstick and mascara! She looked gorgeous in that little costume and, between us, I think that her group had the best costume of the entire recital. Could just be me though.

She had to be at the stage an hour prior to showtime so I dropped her off and then got in line at the door but I got lucky and won front row seats and the ability to skip to the head of the line.

I still couldn't go in though because I had to wait for Tony, Harper, Zoe, Landon, Brandon, Mema and Umpa to show up. As they trickled in I brought them to our seats and then came back out to wait for whoever was next. Everyone was there and in their seats about 10 minutes prior to showtime and we were all excited to see Dakota's routine. She was in the 5th group so our wait was short.

I didn't try to take any photo's while she danced because I did that during rehearsal and I didn't feel like it was necessary. I've ordered a copy of the DVD and Dakota is anxiously awaiting it's arrival because she wants to see herself dance! I have to say though that Dakota did an amazing job. She knew her choreography top to bottom and never once looked at her teacher for guidance. She pasted her fake smile on and went through that routine like a pro! I was incredibly proud of her and I could tell she was pleased with herself as she left the stage.

The kids came out and did their numbers and then stayed backstage with the class mom's until the recital was finished. I don't know what they were doing backstage the whole time but we didn't see Dakota again until it was time for the all to come out and take their bows. When Dakota's class was dismissed we were able to give her the flowers we'd brought and she was so surprised that the flowers were all for her! Harper chose the multicolored flowers for her because he thought she'd like them best. Mema and Umpa gave her the red roses.

On our way out we grabbed one more picture and then we headed home so that Tony and I could get ready to go our for our anniversary. I've already signed her up for next season which begins in September. This upcoming session she'll be in the Primary Combo II/III class which will be an hour and a half once a week with two recital numbers. It's a little more than what she did this year but I think she's totally ready and I am certainly looking forward to seeing her dance again!
