Gymnastics

Dakota has been asking if she could try gymnastics ever since her friend Sydney started a few months ago. So, since dance and girl scouts is over for awhile I thought now would be a good time for her to give it a try. We went to check out the gym down the road on Tuesday evening and found out that the summer session began this week so I went ahead and signed her up right then and there. The place is less that 5 minutes away and she'll attend on Thursdays for an hour which works out really well for our schedule.

Dakota was very nervous about going but when they called her in she put on her brave face and went. It's a large gym with tons of classes going on at the same time so it's a bit overwhelming at first. Their group was led to an area where they did about 10 minutes worth of stretching before beginning a circuit that included work on the balance beam, jumping onto a spring board and going into forward roll, cartwheel practice etc. I could tell that with each new thing Dakota was really struggling but every time she caught my eye she would smile and give me a thumbs up which I was thrilled about! I was almost sure she was going to tell me it was too hard but she just kept doing her best while the coaches helped adjust her however she needed to achieve what they were asking her to do. It was awesome and I am just so amazed at Dakota's willingness to try new things; she's so much braver than I ever knew!

I couldn't take any pictures of her because she was kind of far away from the sitting area and there is a sheet of plexiglass between us making pictures look weird. I also would have ended up with several people's heads in every frame because it is just super duper busy in there.

When we got home Dakota told Tony and Harper how hard it was but that she had really liked it and couldn't wait to go back next week. I'm so relieved that she likes it and look forward to seeing her progress each week!
