Our leader is very talented and when we arrived she was already cutting star shapes out of wood for the girls to sand.
Katherine had also cut out the beginning of the narwhal we'll be adding to our booth so that needed the edges sanded before the girls began painting it.
The booth's had to be made from scratch this year because the ones we used last year had deteriorated too much from sitting outside in the elements. Katherine's husband was busily building the new booths in the garage but was happy to let the girls help when he could find a way for them to do so. They held the end of the piece of wood that was being cut as well as used putty to fill in nail holes, a job adults hate but kids seemed to enjoy!
After a little debating on whether or not it was safe we decided to let the girls have a shot using the electric sander to help sand what will be the narwhals horn. The loved wearing the safety glasses as much as the sanding!
We had a huge rainbow above our booth last year and the girls all voted to reuse it again this year. It was looking a little banged up from all the use it got last year though so we gave the girls some paint and they touched up the rough spots.
It was a very productive couple of hours for the girls and Dakota really enjoyed helping. I can't wait to see what the end product looks like!
