Celebrating Zoe's 23rd at the Iron Rooster

Tony, the three kids, Mema and I drove up to Zoe and Brandon's place yesterday for Zoe's birthday. She had to work until 3:30 so we got there around then so that Mema could see the house and she could open her birthday gifts before we headed out to dinner.

We got her some boots, some warm pj's and a purse. Mema gave her some cash and Brandon got her a new arm band for her cell phone for when she works out. The purse I chose was unique and was a navy blue with big rhinestone flowers on the front...Zoe's reaction wasn't what I'd hoped for sure! She didn't care for it but ultimately decided to keep it even though I offered to return it and let her choose something else. I honestly thought it was really cute and would definitely carry it myself but I'm guessing Zoe felt it was a little juvenile, I'm not sure. I guess you win some and you lose some!

Anyways, after gifts were opened we all sat and chatted in the living room until it was time to head to dinner. Dakota wasn't feeling well again and climbed up next to me on the couch and fell asleep! Poor kid! She's been feeling bad off and on but had been fine before we headed over to Zoe's so I thought we were in the clear. Obviously we weren't. She got to rest for about 20 minutes but I had made reservations at the Iron Rooster so we had to leave to get to dinner on time. She did pretty good the rest of the night and I'm sure her little cat nap helped her through.

Zoe was the one who suggested Iron Rooster because it's a place she really likes and knew we'd always wanted to try. My friend Lisa raved about their homemade pop tarts and I thought that was a pretty interesting thing to have on a menu and worth a try!

I didn't end up getting a pop tart but chose the chicken and waffles since I'd never had it before and had always thought it an interesting combo. (It was good, but not great. The chicken was a bit thin and dry.) Tony and Mema chose the waffle burger and both seemed to like it quite a bit. Zoe chose the biscuits w/ sausage and gravy and Brandon got a HUGE breakfast burrito. Landon didn't order as he'd eaten just a few hours before. Dakota and Harper had chicken tenders (also a bit dry and thin).

All in all the food was pretty good but if I go back I'll try something different. Before heading our separate directions Zoe suggested we all sit on the bench they have at the entrance for a family picture. It isn't the best but we're all squished in together with our sweet Zoe on her big (day late) day. We sure love you Zoe! Happiest birthday, love!
