Lego Challenge(s)

Last Tuesday, when the kids started to bicker, I pulled out a stack of Lego challenge cards that I had printed out. I found them here if you're interested in printing out some of your own.

When I told the kids we were going to work on some Lego challenges I was met with groans about wanting to do something else but I told them we were going to give them a try before we discredited them. So, I pulled two cards out, and they both set to work.

Dakota's first card was "Build a Flower":

Harper's first challenge was to "Make a Pattern":

Then they switched cards. Here's Dakota's pattern:

And Harper's (very similar) flower:

Dakota's next card was to "fill the rectangle without going over the edges". She almost got it so I'll be sure to pull this one out for her to try again sometime.

Harper's next card was "Build a Bridge". He even added "water".

Then they switched again. Here is Dakota's bridge; I was amazed at how well she did!

Here's Harper's attempt to fill in the rectangle. He got it, but it did take a few tries.

After all the groaning at the start they both ended up wanting to do more cards, go figure. So, we did one more which was to build a tower with as many blocks as they could. They didn't last long with this though and after just a few minutes of working decided to put the blocks away.

I will absolutely be pulling these cards out again in the summer! They both love to build and giving them these little prompts seemed to spark their imagination and kept them happy for about an hour.
