Odenton Volunteer Firemen's Carnival

So, immediately after the Memorial Day Parade, we got Dakota changed out of her scout uniform and headed into the carnival. It's been years since we've attended the carnival but it felt like it hadn't changed even the tiniest bit. We got in line for food since it was getting close to 6 pm and ate a quick, very fattening dinner in the fire hall. Harper had pizza, Dakota had a cheeseburger and the rest of us had sausage sandwiches. We shared some cheese fries and onion rings as well. Delicious but whoa, the calories.

After we ate we got in line for tickets and quickly realized it was going to cost a fortune no matter how we did it. We ended up getting both kids and Tony wristbands at $25 a band. I knew there would be rides the kids wouldn't ride on without an adult and I wasn't about to ride anything spinny or that could possibly hurt my neck; so, Tony got the band.

They love these obstacle course type things you can find at fairs so this was the first thing they ran to do.

Next, they decided to try the swings which was a first for both of them. Initially Harper didn't want to ride the swings but changed his mind when he saw some younger kids getting on. Originally Tony was sitting in the double swing with Dakota but when Harper got on Tony traded him so he could sit with Dakota. Harper ended up with his eyes closed almost the entire ride while Dakota laughed and laughed!

One of Dakota's fellow girl scouts wanted to ride the Rainbow so Dakota said she'd go with her. Harper said he wanted to ride too and Tony went as well since Dakota wasn't tall enough to ride without an adult. Harper had his eyes closed most of this ride as well and Dakota said it made her tummy hurt so it wasn't a winner for either of them.

The next thing was another fun house type thing. They did this one 5 or 6 times and especially loved the mirror maze.

After that it was time for some kiddie rides cotton candy, funnel cakes and pig races.

Aside from the inexpensive pig races ($1 a race and Dakota's pig was the winner) we let the kids play one other game and they both chose the balloon pop game. Dakota was able to get two balloons and Harper got one but they both got to choose a prize so they were both happy.

Before heading home they rode the bumper cars. Harper had already ridden once with Tony while Dakota was on something else so the second time around Tony rode with Dakota and Harper had a car to himself. I think Harper spent most of his time trying to figure out how to move away from the wall...it was pretty amusing to watch!

We didn't leave until after 8 pm which is late for my kids on a school night. We all had a really good time though and I think we're all ready for a trip to Six Flags sometime soon.
