Portulaca and Peonies

I finally broke down and bought some soil and flowers for my deck boxes last week. I'm usually really eager to get them filled but this year with all the rain I just wasn't feeling it. When the weather finally broke I figured I'd better do it before the farm I like to buy from was out of stuff. (Sadly the farm I love will be going out of business next year and will be the future home of our high school. I'm sad the farm is going away but glad the kids will be getting a more modern school.)

I grabbed lots of dirt and lots of portulaca because I know those do well out back. I have four new deck boxes this year but I could definitely use at least two more. These boxes are really nice because they are shaped to sit right on top of the porch railing instead of hanging from the side. They're easy to set up and will be easy to take down at the end of the season.

While I was out there I noticed that not all of my peonies were destroyed from the rain so I grabbed my shears and cut off the blooms that had made it.
