Watercolors

We spent the majority of Saturday at home. It isn't often that we do that but since I knew we'd be running the streets of DC for mother's day I thought spending the day at home would be a good idea. We did have to leave temporarily to go to the library and for Tony and Harper to get haircuts, and that evening we brought dinner and flowers over to Mema for mother's day, but other than that, we were here. (Sounds funny to say we were here all day but then add that we were gone so much, but hey, we were home more than usual!)

When the kids finished playing with their friends I thought it'd be fun to try a little watercolor painting with them. We used my washi tape to create designs on white paper and then used watercolors to fill in the remaining white areas.

Tony joined us out in the gazebo as well.

Harper does not love art and ended up leaving when his tape got twisted. He never painted his page and I ended up throwing it out. Oh well. Win some, lose some, right?

Dakota had a moment or two of frustration as well but she's an artsy girl so she stuck it out. Her design turned out really nice too! When we removed the washi it tore the paper a bit but nothing that ruined the painting or anything. Next time we'll wait until the paint is completely dry before removing the tape and see if that helps.

Here's our finished products. Mine:

Of all of us, I think I enjoyed the project the most! I found it relaxing and ended up spending a lot of time outside alone painting on some watercolor postcards we had lying around. I'll do another post about those.
