Saturday Night Dinner

We had our monthly dinner with the Wakefield's here at our house at the beginning of the month. The day before the dinner Tony went out to the store to grab some stuff we needed and while he was stopped at a red light, a woman hit the back end of the car. Tony wasn't hurt but she did quite a bit of damage to the tail end.

This was on the way home from the store too and all those groceries (including a bottle or two of alcohol) were in the now inoperable trunk. Luckily he was able to fold the seats down from the inside to pull the groceries out and thankfully, nothing was broken. Of course the rest of that evening was spent on the phone with insurance companies but this post isn't really about that, it's about the dinner the following night. :)

I'd finished nearly all of the decorating but saved the big tree in the living room for last. It's the big family tree and one the kids get to really help decorate.

Zoe and Brandon came up for dinner also so Zoe happily helped put on the ornaments. Landon and Brandon, on the other hand, opted out.

Once the tree was up Tony set up the VR for everyone to play and I put a puzzle out in the dining room.

Lisa, Jeff and the kids showed up around 4 and the mayhem began. It seemed to me that my family was a little crazier and louder than usual and I couldn't help but wonder if we were driving our friends crazy! I'm not sure I'd agree to dinner with us once a month if I were them!

I found a recipe for Drunken Peanut Butter Cup Martini's and thought they'd be something delicious to try! (They were!)

While the adults imbibed and chatted in the kitchen, the kids played made up games as well as the VR.

We were trying to think of a game to play when Landon mentioned he wanted to learn how to play Poker. So, we all sat at the table learning to play...

And then there was dinner.

And dessert.

After dessert we sat around for a bit more before the Wakefield clan headed home. After putting the two youngest to bed, Tony, Zoe, Brandon, Landon and I sat at the table for hours afterwards working on that puzzle. It was so nice to sit and talk with them and to just relax. As we were sitting at the table we were taking turns playing songs from our phones which lead to reminising about some old music I'd always play in the car on road trips. Zoe started talking about one of the CD's I'd always play and as we were naming songs I mentioned that one of my absolute favorites from that disc was the very last one and one I couldn't remember the name to which drove us all crazy. We sat there thinking and thinking about the song and slowly remembered bits about it like that it was about a murder that took place by the water and the person saw it but wasn't supposed to and was then in trouble. So, off of that we did lots and lots of googling and finally found The Water's Edge by Seven Mary Three. And then, after all that, Zoe said "Hey, I have that on my phone!" Haha!

It was a great night and I'm hoping to recreate it again soon.

April Fools Pranks

The two little kids made me laugh yesterday morning.  I was upstairs getting things ready for school when I heard them talking about how ...
