Going Home

We debated long and hard about when we should drive home and at the last minute on Friday morning, we decided to head out. The kids were so, so sad when I told them but I felt like it was the right decision and Tony agreed. The drive home in years past has been a kinds of horrible and the anxiety I was feeling about driving home was getting the best of me so I felt like we needed to get it over with.

We left around 11 am and stopped around noon for lunch. After eating lunch we were back on the road and making great time. We had decided that if we got to Richmond and the traffic was awful we'd stop at a hotel for the night and make the last couple hours the next day. But, as we entered and flew through Richmond (and got pulled over by a cop who noticed our speed) we knew we were going to make it home in record time even if we did have an extra stop that earned us a speeding ticket. We made it home in just about 9 hours but that included stops for lunch, a bathroom break, a speeding ticket and dinner; so, record time.

It seems that driving home while everyone else is out Black Friday shopping may be the way to go from now on. It means we lose a day in SC but that we get home with our sanity in tact which is always a good thing.

The rest of the evening was spent unloading and decompressing and putting things away. It had been an amazing week away but now it was time to get home and get back to our day to day life and boy did we have a busy week ahead!
