Crazy Hair Day

Back when the kids were participating in the fun run, one of the first grade incentive days was to have a crazy hair day. When Dakota told me about it I looked for some ideas on Pinterest and saw an easy enough looking donut and told her we could try it if she wanted. Well, she was SUPER excited about it so we gathered up the stuff and the next morning we made her hair into a donut.

First you put all of your hair into a neat ponytail at the top of your head, then slide a plate with a hole cut in the center down over the pony so it's sitting on top of your head. Then you slide a bun maker down the ponytail to the plate and arrange the hair around it so that you can't see the bun maker. This part took a little time and patience but wasn't really all that difficult. At this point you could use a bunch of bobby pins to hold it in place but I just ended up using a scrunchie because bobby pins are a pain and I'm lazy.

The night before I made a donut out of some leftover felt I had using the bun maker as a size guide. It wasn't really anything special, just a lumpy circle pieces with some pink and white bits super glued on top. I also super glued some felt loops underneath so that I would have a way to attach it to her hair with bobby pins without them being seen.

I was a little worried about it holding up all day but it was still perfectly intact when she got home. And, as you can see, her hair wasn't the only crazy thing I sent to school that day. :)
