Where the Wild Things Are

IMG_3441 Today, for the first time in several years, we went to the National Zoo in D.C. It turned out to be the perfect day for it and we saw more animals out and about today than we ever have. Usually it's too hot and they hide, so today with the weather in the mid 70's many were out for us to see. I took nearly 200 pictures today, so I thought instead of one gigantic post, I'd post some throughout the week or something. I got some excellent shots, (not all of them of course) but many are worth sharing.

The first animal encounter were these Prairie Dogs. This is only of the three prairie dogs that were out, but a pretty good shot of him checking all the people out!

IMG_3268 Next stop, the lion cages.

This is the first time we've ever seen them actually out walking around, eating food and such. Usually they are hiding out in the shade, so I made sure to get several shots! We didn't see any male lions, but the two females we saw were beautiful!

Right around the corner from the lions was this huge tiger. He was pacing his exhibit area and keeping us entertained by walking right along the water of his area and standing on his hind legs looking in the doors to the building. I guess he wanted back in? If you look closely at the bottom photo, you can see that the doors (right under the windows) are pretty scratched up!

Wow looks like you got some awesome photos! What a great day you had too. Rainy and dreary here. We even had a tornado warning yesterday. Looking forward to seeing more photos!
