Fancy Nancy Daisy Scout Event

Yesterday morning I took Dakota to a Fancy Nancy scout event. It was from 10-12:30 and those girls were busy the entire time we were there.

After checking in the girls were immediately sent to make and decorate a name tag.

After that there was a short introduction of the troop who organized the event and why they hold this annual event. (They're earning money to travel to Austria.)

Next up the girls were sent to a table where they made tiara's for the stuffed animal they brought from home.

The next activity was making a Valentine for a friend. They learned how to fold a paper heart into an envelope and then they decorated it with markers and stickers.

Once they had finished with their Valentine's they listened to a story. They were each given a heart lollipop and when the reader said right, they passed their lollipop to the right. When she said left, they passed it left. It was a good lesson on right and left and there were many times one girl wouldn't have a lollipop while another girl would end up with two or even three!

Since they had been told a story now it was their turn to make one up as a troop. They were given a big ball of yarn to pass and when they had the yarn it was their turn to make up a sentence in the story.

The next activity was a service project in which the girls made toys for shelter cats. They scooped a little catnip into old socks they brought from home and then stuffed in some fiber-fill. We tied off the socks so that the catnip and fiber would stay in and we'll be donating ours to the local animal shelter when we visit them in a couple weeks.

It was about half way through the program around then so the girls had snack time. There were all kinds of goodies set up but I think the main attraction was the make your own ice cream sundae. I know it was Dakota's favorite!

Since the service aspect of this gathering was about helping animals in shelters, there were a few ladies there with dogs for the girls to see. One of the women there had trained her dog to do a few things and demonstrated that to the girls. The dogs name was Hero (and he was quite adorable!).

The girls were encouraged to strut across the stage like Fancy Nancy does and I did catch a little video of our troop (Dakota is near the end of the video):

All in all this was a really nice event. For something that is planned out by middle school age girls, it was well thought out and fun for the younger girls who attended.
