Last weekend, while most people were huddled around the TV watching the Super Bowl, we were having our annual Vran Bowl. I wasn't exactly prepared for it though because I only found out that is was Super Bowl weekend on Saturday morning when Tony told me. Oops. Usually I take a couple days to gather up game ideas and supplies but with only hours notice and an already busy schedule I just didn't have time. So, we compromised by grabbing some board games and making junk food.
Dakota insisted that I write down all the games we could possibly play, so for her sake, I did. The kids thought of these games: The Telephone Game, Squirts (not sure what that one was but I assure you it isn't what you're thinking) Cookie Face (one we played at Thanksgiving one year), Drawing Switch (with eyes closed one person starts a drawing and passes it around the table with everyone having a turn finishing the picture) the Cold Hand Challenge (who can keep their hand in cold water the longest) and Best Castle Build (a wooden block castle building challenge. Myself, Tony, Zoe, Brandon and Dakota did this one. Landon was the judge and he said Dakota was the clear winner!)
We started the morning off with Soggy Doggy, a game Dakota got for Christmas but we hadn't played yet. Tony set it up and read the directions so that could have a practice run to see how it worked.
It is a simple game of roll the dice, move around the board and take a chance getting wet when you have to squirt the doggy. The kids loved watching the dog shake off the water but really, it isn't that great of a game and they lost interest rather quickly.
We played Pie Face. Dakota refused to play this game so she just watched and marked off the winner, who happened to be Harper.
Harper remembered playing Cookie Face at my parents house one year at Thanksgiving and wanted to play it again. The only cookies we had were Oreo's so everyone played with the exception of me (I HATE Oreo's). I did my best recording everyone but it was next to impossible. I missed it when Landon stood up, put the cookie on his forehead, jumped up and then caught the cookie in his mouth! I saw it but had my phone pointing and Zoe.
And then there was Goldfish Football:
The biggest hit of the day though was the Virtual Reality game Loco Dojo. It's a bunch of silly mini games you play while wearing the VR headset. I didn't get a chance to play it but everyone seemed to really have fun with it. I got some video but they aren't great so I'll spare you. I wish I had grabbed my phone to video when Zoe was having her turn because she was screaming and ducking away from things like they were really about to get her! It was really funny!
I'll admit that I really prefer the Minute to Win it type games for our Vran Bowl and will go back to that next year. (As long as I have time to prepare anyways.)
