Spring Dance and Auction

The kids' elementary school holds a huge dance and silent auction each spring. It's a huge event that raises a decent amount of money every year and one that the kids really look forward to attending. It is always crazy busy and while that can make it a bit stressful I'm always proud to be a part of a school where so many families participate. There is face painting, balloon twisting, raffles, the silent auction and of course, dancing. The school sells pizza by the slice as well as drinks and chips and offers a huge candy table.

I've never really participated in the silent auction before but this year I thought I'd at least check things out. There were some really terrific items to bid on and while we did bid on a few, we didn't win anything. Tony was really hoping to win the Muse + Paladar date night but once it hit $125 we figured that's what we'd spend anyways and quit bidding.

When I told my mother in law that we were going to the dance/auction she asked if she could come and I told her sure! She was really interested in the auction and couldn't wait to check it out. She bid on some baskets for the kids (each class builds a themed basket, for example, Dakota's class did a Disney basket and Harper's class did an Outdoor Explorer basket). She ended up winning two of them, one for each kid. Dakota got an Art basket (her favorite thing in the world!) and Harper got his class basket, Outdoor Explorer (he LOVES bugs and nature in general). They were thrilled with what Mema had won for them and couldn't wait to get home and rip them open! (Mema was also trying to win a Minecraft/Roblox basket but that was pretty cut throat and reached $150! There were three people bidding on that one at the end (Mema was one of them) and a man ended up winning it by standing over the paper and not letting anyone else near the paper! Cheater! But, my kids were not disappointed at all and really loved their prizes!

It was a fun night and we were all exhausted when we got home. We'll definitely go again next year and maybe we'll do a little more bidding next time.
