I've had a subscription to Ali Edwards' scrapbook kits since she began them. I love her style of scrap booking and am a fan of the simple way she goes about telling her stories. This month (for the first time) I watched all of the videos that accompanied the Fabric kit she put out and felt really inspired to use the kits items. This month she made an incredible page that featured her family's bedding and wrote about each persons sleeping accommodations and preferences. It was a simple concept and one I'd never thought of doing so I decided then and there that I wanted to replicate her idea. My page isn't exactly like hers but very close and I really like the story that goes along with the photos.
It was while I was taking pictures of the beds that I realized how much I wished I'd seen this idea years ago. At least back when all of my kids lived at home. I wish that Zoe's bed was featured along with the rest of ours. It's almost as though this page isn't really finished, or missing something. This is our reality now and who knows what our lives will look like one, two or ten years down the road. Not that long ago there would have been five beds featured; one of them a newly finished basement bedroom built with Zoe in mind when I was pregnant with Dakota. There would have been a full size captains bed (Landon) a crib converted to a toddler bed (Harper) and a little white crib with pastel sheets (Dakota). There would have been different fabrics on the beds, different pillows.
Why it took me a kit about Fabric to see the significance of photographing the ordinary, I'll never know, but I'm glad it did. I hope to include more pages about the little things this year. More about the RIGHT now that may seem insignificant, but will have immense value in years to come.
