Massing of the Colors

Last weekend the girl scout troop attended and participated in the Massing of the Colors ceremony at Ft. Meade. It was pretty warm out that afternoon and there was a collective sigh of relief when we saw that it was being held indoors! The girls were very excited and 4 of them were given the opportunity to carry flags. Dakota got lucky and was chosen to be one of the flag bearers!

We had to be at the venue an hour ahead of time so the girls had time for lots of pictures and running around before the event began.

Here they are marching in, and if you watch closely you can catch a glimpse of Dakota with her flag!

We even got to watch a performance by the US Army Drill Team which was pretty cool!

The ceremony lasted about 2 hours and I have to say, I was pretty amazed at how well all the kids sat the entire time, Harper included. He didn't even get to participate but he sat those two hours listening to music from the band as well as many, somewhat boring, speeches.

After the ceremony there were snacks for everyone and then we gathered the troop together for some photos. The first one was with Miss Maryland Preteen:

And then just our girls in front of the flags that were in front of the stage area:

And finally one of the girls and their flags:
