Daisy Scout Meeting #2, Money Counts

October seems to be a hard month for me to blog. There just aren't enough hours in the day to do them all and then sit down and write about them too! I've decided it's time to get this little blog updated though so, here we go!

Our second meeting this year was all about money and how it works. We had three rotations, understanding coins, learning about paper money and a game of the Price is Right to find out how much things actually cost.

At the coin table the girls had real change where they matched up how many quarters, nickles or dimes it would take to equal a dollar. They were also given the opportunity to add coins to an electronic coin bank to see how many pennies or other coins it would take to equal a dollar. Of course they loved the coin banks and enjoyed putting money in them over and over again!

In the second area there was a mock cookie booth and the girls bought cookies from one another and had to figure out what change they would get back. They loved this too.

The winner of the night though was playing the game The Price is Right. The girls did their best to guess which items cost what and the winners from the game this week will get to participate in the Showcase Showdown at the next meeting. They'll get actual prizes and everything...they're pretty excited!

Since we area  mixed troop now, meaning we have Daisy's and Juniors, the older girls worked on a poster about wants vs. needs. They were given lots of magazines and a big poster board to cut and paste things they would want vs. need. I didn't get a picture of the finished product but I am curious to see what they put on either half.
