We barely made it home from Turkey Hill in time for Dakota and I to attend her girl scout trip to the firehouse. I gave Dakota the choice to go to the firehouse or skip it and she chose to go, so we did.
We've toured this fire station many times but I think this was probably the best tour we've had there. The men giving the tour were engaging and patient and allowed the girls to ask as many questions as they wanted. I loved some of the questions! Here are a few of the one's I remember:
Q: Where is your dalmatian?
A: We don't have one at this station.
Girls Response: Oh (very disappointed)
Q: Where is the pole you slide down?
A: We don't have one.
Q: Well, how do you get down here?
A: This station is only one level.
Q: But, how do you get down here to the trucks?
A: ...we just run out here.
Girls Response: Oh (very disappointed)
Q: Are there any girl fire fighters that work here?
A: Yes, on every shift but this one.
Girls Response: Yay!
A fireman was explaining that every family should have a meeting place outside their home so that they could meet up in case of fire. One of the girls asked what if the house was on fire and all of outside too? The fireman didn't really have an answer for her but told her to make sure her family had a meeting spot.
*Dakota told one of the firemen about how her hair had caught fire when she leaned over a candle at her Mema's house and about how her cousin saved the day by putting her hair in the sink to extinguish said fire. The fireman didn't really know what to say about that...
On the way home Dakota told me she learned that calling 911 as a joke is a bad idea. When I asked her why she said because someone who really needs the police or firemen would have to wait while they checked on the joke people. :) At least she learned something!
